Hello People,
I hope everyone is doing well. We thank God for yet another day in our lives.
Well with regard to the topic of this post; MARRIAGE AS A VOCATION. I joined a youth program in church out of the need to be more active in church and to improve my personal Christian life.
On my first day at the program, this was the topic of discussion and it was made an open discussion.
So we defined vocation first and we went ahead to define marriage and this is where we got stuck.
We were asked what the major reason for marriage was and 90 percent of the class said procreation primarily and companionship secondarily. Of course they supported this with bible verses, etc.
I was of a completely different view. While I might not be as conversant with the bible as most of them are, I do remember Genesis quite well. 'Äfter God created Adam, he saw that he was lonely, he needed a companion, so he put him to sleep, took a rib out of him and created woman, Eve. A little bit further down in Genesis you will see that God blessed them and said Go forth and multiply.
So I spoke up and said the primary reason for marriage is companionship. The reason why God created woman was because he saw that man was lonely. That is the reason why we should get married, because we need a companion, someone to love, someone to grow old with, someone to share your life with, not marrying to procreate. What happens if children do not come? That marriage will not feel fulfilled afterall that was the primary reason for the marriage. Children are an additional blessing from God. When we get married, we pray for children, long life, prosperity, amidst other blessings we seek from God, but marriage in itself is a union between two people who have become one for better for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health till death do them part. I think it is clear that the primary reason for marriage should be for companionship.
Ofcourse alot of people disagreed with me and we had to call the marriage counsellor from the marriage class beside us and she came and said the primary reason for marriage is PROCREATION!
I really was in shock. I raised my argument and she stuck to hers. We, the 10 percent, stuck to our own belief and the class could not move forward so I decided to write about it here hoping someone will throw some clarity on the subject.
What is the primary reason for Marriage in the christian world?
Different issues, different stories, different people, one world.

Hi guys,
It feels good to have finally started a blog.
I have always loved to write but it has been so long.......

This blog is going to be my diary, a place to vent. ..lol, discuss alot of ongoing issues and also discuss findings and common problems.
I hope to inspire as many people as I can and hopefully improve my life somehow through this medium. So enjoy reading as the days go by and I will catch you all later with the next post. Cheers!
